RetroTherm® MAX is the perfect solution for installers who are looking to install underfloor heating into existing homes where floor height build up is a consideration.

Low profile overfloor systems have become increasingly popular in recent years as they have enabled home owners to enjoy the benefits of underfloor heating in existing properties.

Whilst predominantly used in retrofit applications, RetroTherm® MAX also provides an alternative to pipe in screed systems in new homes on ground and upper floors.

At just 18mm in height (for 12mm pipe) or 25mm (for 16mm pipe), the RetroTherm® MAX gypsum fibre panel can be laid directly onto an existing concrete floor or floor board and accepts a variety of floor finishes.

The RetroTherm® MAX “one-piece” panel has a unique pipe return design built in allowing for faster installation when compared to systems with separate straight panels and end returns.

The system uses 12mm or 16mm PE-RT EVOH pipe and the panels are grooved at 150mm centres (18mm panel) or 167mm centres (25mm panel) making them suitable for use with low temperature heat sources such as ground and air source heat pumps as well as gas boilers.

The RetroTherm® MAX panels can be used with a number of floor finishes including tiles, laminate, LVT, engineered wood and carpet.

Regardless of the choice of floor finish, we recommend laying an 6-10mm layer of LevelMore Flex & Fibre self levelling compound, once the installation of the pipe and panels and system pressure test has been completed. This provides extra stability to the floor and provides an even surface for the final floor finish to be laid onto. It also helps to enhance the output from the system.

If tiles have been chosen as the final floor finish, it is possible to lay these directly onto the panels using an S2 tile adhesive. In either case, the RetroTherm® MAX panels must be primed using PrimeMore Universal

Despite the low profile nature of the system, it is still capable of providing fantastic heat outputs due to the high thermal conductivity and heat retention provided by the RetroTherm® MAX panels.

Here’s some of the feedback we’ve received from installers recently about the RetroTherm® MAX system:

“Absolutely great product. So much better than having to install the end returns as well as the boards. Having the end returns pre-made in the boards is such a brilliant idea!” Tom Gifford, Gifford Plumbing & Heating.
