Engineered for durability and performance, the RetroTherm® Backer Board is a cement-coated, insulated overlay panel system. This system is particularly well suited to underfloor heating applications where a tiled floor finish is to be laid directly on top of boards.
Ideal for both retrofit and new build projects, these boards are also ideal for sub-floors with imperfections, as the tile adhesive fixing method can help overcome these challenges, often without the need for remedial work with self-levelling compounds.
Each panel features a high-density extruded polystyrene (XPS*) core, which is coated on both sides with a durable cementitious coating, reinforced with glass fibre mesh. This structure delivers excellent compressive strength and impact resistance, while also facilitating efficient heat transfer from the pipe to the floor surface.
These lightweight panels are easy to handle and cut. Pre-routed to accept 16mm underfloor heating pipe at 150mm centres, they suit both renewable heat sources and traditional gas boilers.
Thanks to their robust cement coating, RetroTherm® Backer Boards allow tiled floor coverings to be applied directly onto the surface using a suitable flexible tile adhesive. This is particularly helpful where build-up height must be kept to a minimum.
